The Ambassador was the top of the line automobile produced by AMC from 1958 until 1974. The vehicle was known as the AMC Ambassador, Ambassador V-8 by Rambler, and Rambler Ambassador at various times during its tenure in production.  The Ambassador nameplate was never used by AMC after 1974.  The Ambassador could be characterized as a small full-size car or a large intermediate size car.  Regardless, the interior room within the car was similar to that of other US built cars of the era.  AMC's nearly identically sized and very similar appearing and somewhat less expensive Matador would continue on for four more years as AMC's last large car.
