History
The Rambler American was a compact car introduced in 1958 and was based on AMC's earlier Nash Ramblers. It was marketed at a time when US built compact cars were not being built and AMC president George Romney felt with the US buying public would embrace an low cost, economical car. He was right! The Rambler American was produced thru model year 1969; although in 1969 the American name was dropped and the car was marketed as the American Motors Rambler. This was the last year the Rambler name was used by AMC.
