History

There were 3 instances that AMC used the Rebel name.  First in 1957 as the US's first factory muscle car.  It is claimed this was the fastest US steel bodied car that year.  Again in 1966 as a specially trimmed Rambler Classic 2 door hardtop; and then as a model line in its own right from 1967 thru 1970.  In 1971 the Rebel was renamed the Matador but there were few differences between the '70 Reble and the '71 Matador.
