History
Based initially on the Rambler Classic platform the Marlin was America's first mid-sized fast back car. Brought to market to compete with the Mustang it suffered poor sales primarily because it was a large car and AMC was not known, at that time, for fast sporty cars. Interestingly, a smaller similar styled car predating the Mustang, the Tarpon, built on the American platform was favored by many at AMC.
