Overview
Since its launch the estate (station-wagon) version of the Amazon, introduced in February 1962, has been recognized as a incredibly capable workhorse. They were mechanically very similar to the saloons, but were fitted with a four-speed box without overdrive and a rear-axle ratio of 4.55:1, more suited to carrying heavy loads.
The horizontally-split tailgate was extremely practical, both for ease of loading, and as a makeshift bench, though can be prone to rust.
The model number was technically either a 221 or 222, depending on the number of carburettors.
Production statistics
73,196 estates were produced in total, with 17,200 in one year alone (Aug 66 - Aug 67).
