Overview
The 131 was the two-door version of Amazon, and, perhaps surprisingly, was not introduced until 1961, some 5 years after the launch of the Amazon. However, it continued for some time after the four-door model was replaced by the 144 (ceasing in 1970), and in fact sold over 50% more than the four-door.
Variation from main model
The 130 series came out at about the same time as the move up to the B18 (1778cc) engine, and so always had this larger, more powerful engine (the B18 was actually a new design with a five-bearing crank rather than an enlargement of the B16). In 1968 the engine size increased again, to the 1989cc B20 which also powered the 144, and developed 90bhp.
The two-door was mechanically indentical to the four-door 120, although it had larger doors and fold-foward front seats to allow access to the rear seats. This also made it somewhat lighter, and for this reason it was the preferred model for racing and rallying.
Production statistics
359,917 of the 130 series were produced from 1961-1970 (including the 123GT version).
