Front view of 1970 Triumph GT6 Competition Coupé, photographed at Bonhams auction at Race Retro, Stoneleigh Park, March 2008. According to the catalogue, "This car combines a rolling chassis, purchased by the current owner in 1997, with a race-prepared engine and gearbox that he had been using in another GT6 racer. Subsequently, Roger Dowson, who had worked in Triumph’s Competitions Department, identified elements of this car’s special rear suspension as having originated in a GT6 ‘auto-cross special’ built by him in the early 1970s. The current engine is a full race, triple Weber carbureted, 2.3-litre GT6 engine originally supplied to the vendor by Kingston Sports Cars in 1992 and further developed by Classic Racecraft in 1997. Its dynamometer-tested, 186 rear-wheel horsepower are transmitted via a Triumphtune clutch to a TR gearbox, supplied by Classic Racecraft, and thence to a 3.45:1 ratio, limited-slip differential featuring TR6 internals in a TR4 or Triumph 2000 casing. The half shafts are TR5/6 items and the GT6 uprights have been bored out and fitted with TR6 bearings to suit." The car's hood (bonnet) can be seen in the background.
