Countdown to painting

Went to Romance of Rust yesterday for my usual weekly visit, and found that Paint Day is approaching fast.

Lance reckons there's a chance the Amazon might even be ready to go off for to the paint shop at the end of next week. Personally, I think that's a tad optimistic, but I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Either way, things are definitely coming together. The front is now being reassembled, prior to the final clearances being worked on (see pics), and the back should be ready for clearancing by Monday or Tuesday next week.

Then it's just the headlight-shaping, the de-seaming of the factory welds, and some minor cosmetic work before it can go off. Oh and the final decisions on colours and trim.

Putting aside a call I had from Lance this morning about an aubergine-coloured Amazon estate he'd just seen, we're going with the midnight blue pearl paint for the body, satin black engine bay and block, with the bare metal either cleaned and lightly polished -- the carbs and other alloys -- or zinc coated.

The seats and door trims i *think* I'm going to have done in pale blue leather, with the headliner and piping on the seats in a nice pale grey.

Wheels will probably be steels painted in the midnight blue with a fine pinstriping near the rim in the grey used for the interior.

Not sure yet about the rocker cover, or the heater (normally black gloss), but I need to make my mind up PDQ.

Finally, there's a bunch of bits I need to order in the next few days in order to avoid us grinding to a halt -- everything from stainless steel fasteners to bonnet rubbers.
