Engine rebuild: first assessment
Tags: crankshaft disassembly engine rebuild
Got the bulk of the block disassembled this afternoon -- removed the timing chain, sprockets, cam, oil pan and pump, and nearly all of the pistons (just had one left when I had to call it a day).
Although it'll be difficult to say for sure until I finish the disassembly and get a proper look at the crank, I got a fairly good look around and have a first assessment at what's needed.
First off, I found another cracked piston, although again the cylinder wall seemed undamaged. I also found a load of crap when I took out the oil pump (see pic -- Lance though it seemed like plastic, certainly not metal -- a bit of seal?).
On the plus side the cam looked OK to my inexpert eye. Not so good was the crank, which had a pit on at least one of the journals, and scoring (see pic) on several of the others.
Hopefully this can be sorted with a re-grind, but I'll need Mark's expert eye to know for sure.
