Engine rebuild: crankshaft update

Tags: balancing budget crankshaft intake manifold

Quick update re the crankshaft.

The good news: I've found a couple of options from a friend of a friend -- one steel, one cast iron.

The bad news: having taken loads of soundings from a number of people who know about these things, I really do need to get the crank and reciprocating assembly balanced. As one of the people said, you'll probably be fine at low revs, but once you go much above 4,000 you'll end up shaking the engine to bits.

That obviously completely blows my £500 budget, but I'm determined that it should be done both right and to an affordable level, and maybe the £500 will have to be everything except the crank.

On the plus side, Lance (of Romance of Rust) treated the intake manifold to a blasting, and it now looks luverly.
