Rare American cars

As I write this I am up in the fine city of Norwich having driven a 100miles in glorious sunshine to get here to visit my Mother. When alone in the car I just can't help driving it as fast as possible on the motorway, pushing it to the limit (not of power but of handling). I had all windows down and on the clear straights I just floored it, I blew the original "astrophonic" radio I was playing too loud - but music is always a disapointment compared with the sound of a 383 V8 anyway so I don't care.
At over 100mph in 2 tonnes on drums and bias ply rubber I satisfied that earlier issue of feeling like a man - I actually had to "drive" this car. I am in awe of the dependability of this 44yr old car.
I know this site is supposed to be for detailing the "project" of the car, but I spend far more time driving and that is the way it should be. Each time I go outside to clean and polish the car, within 15mins I'm round the block. I've had this car over 6 months and the result of this behaviour is that I have only polished half the car so far.
The guy I bought the car off called me yesterday to gloat over the fact that he had filled the gap with an even rarer car than he sold me ("my arse" I thought). But he had. Through word of mouth he found locally to him a 1963 Mercury Monterey convertible S55!!!!!! 1 of 1300 made. With 50k miles from new. The vendor had it sitting in a garge for years, not knowing what it was. I think my man got a good deal.
