alternator

DSCN0327a.JPG

The dynamo on my Alpine has been a weak point since I got the car back on the road. Ages ago I started looking for an alternator to fit but discovered the exhaust system was a problem. The exhaust fitted very snuggly around the dynamo leaving no room for an alternator. I tried many different kinds but none would fit.

Last week, sick of constantly having to jump start the car, I went to an exhaust shop and had the extractors modified to give me more space.

While they were at it they made me a bracket for the Bosch alternator I'd picked up from a scrapyard.

This weekend I wired it all up. I've since been out in it all day and not had a single problem. With electric fan, lights and wipers on and my phone plugged into the cigarette lighter my ammeter shows it happily charging away. Hooray!
