Cleaning the threads in the Camaro's block

Tags: 350 taps thread-cleaning

Finally got myself the taps to clean the threads in the Camaro's small-block lump. Thanks to Seth, I found a UK supplier of affordble UNC taps, and more to the point, given the thread-cleaning job I had to do, of plug taps.

Ordering online from Chronos Ltd was straightforward, and a set of three plug taps (3/8, 7/16 and 1/2 inch) arrived about 4 days later, and cost just £10 including shipping.

Having got them, the job of cleaning the threads began, and, boy, was it needed, with quite a bit of crud being stuck in some of the threads, and others being very stiff. It was a long process, but therapeutic in a way, and at least I know the torque wrench settings won't be thrown out by seized threads.
