Quick update to my last post. Turned out the problem on the new dizzy (an MSD StreetFire HEI unit) was the module had gone. Easy enough to fix you'd think, which is what the guys at American Auto car did, testing it was working OK.

However, when I turned up fit it (simple job, after all) suddenly I had no ignition again. This time it turned out to be the coil that had gone.

So, another week later, I get the dizzy back and fit it again -- and this time it seems to work. However, I'm taking no chances and keeping the old one in the back of the van for a while just in case.
