Updated 10th July 2008
I had to abort my long awaited drive from the UK to Switzerland last weekend. Apart from the awful weather in the UK, the car developed a fuel vapour leak. Which wasn't great for a 10 hour drive across France...so I ended up taking it to a friends place to get it checked out and catching a flight back.
The puzzling thing was there there no signs of a fuel leak anywhere, but the boot and cabin stank of fuel...it turned out to be a small crack under the filler neck. So the tank has now been emptied and in the next day or so welded so this should stop the problem.
I'm going to have the car shipped down to Spain to another friend who will do some local repairs to the body work, plus I get to spend a week in the sun working on the car before I attempt to drive through Spain and France back to the Swiss Alps...wish me luck!
