Fuel gauge kaputt
Hadn't done a lot of driving in the past few weeks, so decided to take the Amazon down to the south coast for the Brighton Speed Trials, which I'd never been to before, but heard good things about.
Brighton's only a little over an hour away, so didn't feel I needed to start at the crack of dawn, and headed south out of London about 9.30.
No sooner had we got into those south London suburbs south of Modern that seem to have no name, that a women in a people carrier wound pulled up alongside me at some lights to tell me khow much she loved the car.
The lights changed, I went to pull away, and suddenly the engine's misfiring all over the place. Fuel gauge? Half-full.
I managed about another couple of hundred yards before coasting into a side road. Tried again, and there was that classic 2 seconds of running before dying that usually means you're out of fuel.
Parked up, and walked 10-15 minutes back to the nearest petrol station for a petrol can and a gallon of unleaded. Sure enough that was the problem, and after I filled it up, the gauge went to full and stayed there even after the drive back from Brighton (which was great, by the way -- I be posting a few pics here).
I've a feeling it might be the gauge rather than the sender (which was replaced when the car was restored), but until I get it sorted I'll have to work on instinct, or keep filling her up before each journey.
