Carburettor prob: found, solved, reappeared, solved again
This particular saga started when on the journey back from the always enjoyable Goodwood Revival, the engine started to die at idle, both when coming to a stop at junctions and lights (and there are a fair few of both on the journey), and when going around roundabouts.
Liberal doses of heel-and-toeing got us home and it wasn't until a couple of weeks later that I got a chance to take a look at it.
A tweak of the idle setting stopped the engine dying, but on opening up the bonnet, after driving to Romance of Rust, it became clear that the twin SU carbs were overflowing badly. First job clean out the carbs, which were surprisingly dirty given the tank etc was replaced when the car was restored.
That didn't solve the problem, and the needle valves and floats seemed OK, so Lance suggested a fuel regulator, as the replacement Volvo fuel pumps often through out too much fuel. Picked up a Filter King from Think Automotive on the way home, and after fitting it a couple a weeks later (Lance did a nice custom mount, which I'll get powder-coated soon), it seemed to do the trick.
...until I got home and found the carb still overflowing. Only thing left was to change the floats and needle valves with ones from Southern Carburettors.
This time it did the trick, and the engine's now back to it's old self.
