Hidden rust and dodgy welding

Swung by to see the Amazon again this morning, and it's progressing pretty well. Not surprisingly a few bits of hidden rust have been found, including the post in front of the nearside door (you can see it in the picture), which was pretty much gone, as you can see.

The wheel arches were predictably rubbish too, and there's been a whole load of dodgy welding been done, with patches covering up rust (which have continued to rust), and sometimes, patches on top of patches.

This afternoon, Lance was going to put on the new nearside inner wing, prior to repairing the door post with a new section he's had made up. The inner wing will help fix the positions of everything and stop things flexing when the post is cut away.

Apart from the, we're working out ways to spend more money. I've pretty much decided to relocate the number plate to the rear bumper, to give a completely clean boot, which will look good with the frenched in rear lights.

I've also asked Lance order a heated rear window, which will help visibility a bit, particularly if we lose the door mirrors, which didn't look great and didn't work that well either. Together with halogen headlights and a half-decent sounds system, that's meant the alternator conversion I've always meant to do will be a no-brainer. Still there's a few ideas there too.

We have, however, decided to keep (and repair) the passenger door. Though it's pretty dented in places, the metal's sund, and Lance reckons he can do a good job on it. That'll save a bit (though only a bit), but mostly I think oth Lance and I didn't want to loose original bits where they could be reasonably be saved. It is, after all, as resto, not a replacement.
