Progress report
Tags: bodywork doors restoration wings
Heading over to check on the Amazon again today, and definitely progress. There's still patches of rust being discovered at the back, but the front half is coming together.
First the good news: the inner wings are on, the doors have been rehung, and the bonnet (hood) has been tentatively positioned. Everything is now pretty well lined up, and the doors are shutting with a gentle push (and a satisfying chunk sound). There's a bit more work to be done on the bonnet and outer wings (we're waiting for a replacement nearside one, but are using a rusty but straight one for positioning purposes), and the replacement nose needs a bit of work to fit perfectly.
However, it's definitely coming together, and Lance even had time to weld where the indicator would normally sit in the wing, as we're going to reposition those.
At the back, they'd found a bit more rust inside, where the inner wheel arches met the floorplan. Nothing too horrendous, but it means there's still a fair bit more metal that needs to be removed). In addition the new rear lower flanges that we'd got didn't extend as high up as the rust did, so they have had to be extended.
Finally, I went to see Lance's paint guy, and have mad a tentative selection of half a dozen colours. I'll come back to that when I've had a bit of time to think about it, but at the moment I'm tending slight towards a very very dsrk blue flake (almost black). Or perhaps a light tan. Or something.
