Some decisions made

Tags: bodywork colour paint restoration wheel-arches

Headed up to Romance of Rust yesterday to check on progress on the Amazon, and by the time I'd got there realized I'd made a few decisions about colour and so on.

One of the things holding me back, was that I'd spent so many years driving it around as a white (well, off-white) car, I was having a hard time picturing it as anything else.

However, having it in bare metal these past few weeks has helped me get some distance, and I'm now 80% certain I'm going to go for the nearly-black blue. Given the stance and the feel I want for the car, it just seems right, which is as good a reason as any when it comes to colour.

This in turn makes it a lot easier to make the other pending decisions. We're going to lose the lower of the two (factory) crimps on the lower rear flanges of the body. We're going to go for very pale brown seats and trim, and we're going to paint the engine bay a satin black. Finally, the nickelised chrome trim that I'm going to go for should look great against such a dark, sexy colour.

The only thing it makes more difficult is the wheels, which were going to be steels painted the same as the body colour -- possibly this needs rethinking.

As far as the bodywork goes, the front has passed a milestone -- everything has been properly aligned (inner wings, bonnet, doors), and so the final welding can now be done. The engine is coming out this weekend (it was left in while the alignment was done), so the engine bay can be sorted and the front floorplans replaced.

The nearside rear outer arch in now on (see pic), and very nice it looks too. The offside arch will be going on next week.

All in all, it's really coming together, and I can start to finalise the details -- the interior, the lights, the trim, and so on.
