What is autopendium?

Autopendium is a website for people with old cars. It's a place for people like us to share information (stories, tips, anecdotes, facts and photos), and it's a place to keep track of our own cars, while letting other people know about them too.

Vintage cars, race cars, classic cars, important prototypes and run-of-the-mill bangers, historic and hop-up -- if you've got a car and it's over 20 years old, then you're that special breed of person who prefers real cars to remote-locking, engine sounds to engine management systems, and substance over easy-starting... despite the extra effort.

Although the site is still in its early stages, we hope that you will find it useful, and perhaps even contribute your own expertise to help other people with similar interests.

 

Who is behind autopendium

The main person behind autopendium is Chris Taggart -- that'd be me. I've had old cars and friends with old cars ever since I've owned a car. My first car, a 1965 Volvo Amazon, is still my daily driver, though the stable has increased slightly since then.

I had the idea for autopendium a couple of years ago when struggling to find a source for parts for my 2nd Gen Camaro (it's a lot easier if you're in the US) -- and had originally intended to hire a couple of hotshot programmers to implement it. Somewhere along the way, however, I decided it might be more interesting to do it myself, which would also keep the costs down, and so avoid having to make the site too commercial, though it would also mean that I'd have to learn how to program. 

So, if there are problems with this site, glitches, bugs, or things you plain just don't like, it's my fault, and I'd encourage you to contact me at the email address at the bottom of this page. 

 

What do we promise?

  • We won't sell your email address or details. Ever. Period.
  • The site is for old cars, which means ones at least 20 years old -- we've got nothing against new cars, it's just that they're not old ones, which is what we love. So we won't dilute this site by putting new cars on it
  • Difference of opinions are fine, abuse is not, and will be deleted, and abusing users may be blacklisted,
  • We hate spam, and will crack down on it wherever we see it -- if you're logged in, simply click the "report abuse" button if you ever see any.
  • Any material you add to the site about your vehicles remains yours -- you retain the copyright (although we obviously have the right to publish it, otherwise neither you nor anyone else would be able to see it). This includes your photos. (see our terms of use for full details -- we've tried to make sure it's not too full of legal jargon)
  • If you decide to leave the site you can take all your personal information with you (information about you, your vehicles and your photos), and remove it from the site.
  • We backup all the data every day to to an off-site, so you should never lose all your valuable information
