Update: more details, most rust
Tags: chrome custom restoration rust trim
The first bright day in ages gave us a chance to properly check out the midnight blue. And very nice it looked too, rich and bright at the same time, yet almost black in a low light.
First the sexy stuff: Lance has remade the rear upper trim-line. It was in pressed stainless steel, and in two pieces, both different widths. One piece followed the lower window line, the other went from the back of the window line to the rear-window chrome.
Unfortunately, the pieces of trim are different sizes (see photo), and neither fit brilliantly. Given we'd decided to de-chrome the rear window, the solution was to extend the lower window line to almost the rear window, remaking it in a single piece of brass (to be chromed later).
The result looks really clean, and I'll post a photo when I track down my mislaid camera.
Meanwhile Mark has been working on the back, replacing more rust and bad welding the driver's side inner rear wheel arch and the boot floor, and Lance started work on beating out the flange for the petrol cap, which is being relocated into the boot.
