Getting some sounds in the Amazon

Tags: audio radio security stereo

For the past week, the Amazon's been at Auto Audio Installations in North London, having a stereo/speakers/etc fitted, prior to the interior being finished, and a superb job they've done.

Went over today to check it out, and the sound is just excellent. I've gone for Morel speakers in the doors (separate tweeters in the door cappings) and on the rear parcel shelf, with an Alpine CDA 9857R head unit.

It's a unit which will shortly be discontinued (for one with slightly more unnecessary bells and whistles), so I got a deal on the price.

More to the point, it's a 60W unit, which means it's well matched to the Morels, and also works well with the iPod fitting I came up with. This consists of a docking station in the ashtray, which is linked to the Alpine's aux system (and the car's power supply system, so it can be charged while it's in the dock).

The Alpine actually has iPod connectivity, so you can control the iPod from the hed unit, but I'm not using that as  it makes more sense to be able to adjust the volume/track from the iPod on the dash rather than from the Alpine, which is in revamped front parcel shelf.

The parcel shelf has been made up by Lance from bare metal and replaces the floppy fabric and cardboard affair that was previously. At the moment, it's just painted metal, but will eventually be covered in leather.

Finally, I've got them to fit an engine immobilizer while it's there. Bit of extra peace of mind, and where we've put it -- under the dash, near the heater unit -- keeps it discrete, though the flashing LED is still visible.
