1971 E-type Jaguar S3 - V12

This is a manual LHD car, original white with a black interior. The car was sent over to British Leyland Switzerland, sold to a Belgium Diplomat a few months later who registered new in Tunisia. It was kept there until the early 80's and then looks like it was taken to Belgium with the owner. At some point it was given to a paint shop just outside Gent to do some work, where it sat for a while before being bought by a friend who brought it to the UK. Again it sat in storage for a few years until I found it and bought it.

I now know that the car was shipped new to British Leyland, Switzerland, Frey Emil A.G Auto- Centre, Safenwil, Switzerland. I've managed to trace a record of the car over here. I just have to cough up the 100CHF fee to obtain a copy of the original paperwork, this will hopefully give me a little more information on the car.

Not much history or paperwork came with the car, just a Tunisian log book that confirms the VIN and engine details. I wonder if Tunisia has the equivalent of the DVLA (DMV in the US) to track down the previous owner...but the good news is that the paperwork just lists the original Belgian owner, so that means I'm the second owner.

Still no news on the car, I've decided to pull the car out of Spain and ship it back to the UK to be finished off. Graham is a great bodyman but useless and keeping track of money spent, he seems to get distracted by other projects...so once it's painted the car is going home to the UK.

Okay, so they are not the best photos, but he's a good body man (Graham) and not a photographer! Car is progressing well and the main body has been primed and block sanded and re-primed. The shaping looks great and he's refitted the doors and the gapping is sharp. Its effectively ready for paint after a final flatting. The bonnet is now completely stripped to its component form (a lot of nuts, bolts + panels) and he's made a start on repairs albeit cutting out rot. Next week he's going to prep the sub-frames and bulkhead and get them in ...read more

Here are the latest photos from my recent trip down to Spain to see the car. Still lot's to do but it's coming along in leaps and bounds. Body work is almost done. The bonnet is the next job to do before paint... I managed to get the alternator and starter motor through Spanish customs, but only after I a bag search as I don't think could believe someone was trying to carry something like this on the plane. With the help of ebay, I bought a NOS wing for the car as mine was in need of too much ...read more

Just planning my next trip down to Spain to catch up on the progress to the car and to get some photos as Graham is useless with emails and attachments....well he has got a pc and not a mac :) Just bought a couple of things from ebay, they are the bonnet and engine frame. Drove up to Coventry on Fri to pick them up from the seller (Tim), we had a cup of tea and a long chat about E-Types. It seems he's had his since the late 70's and after being off the road for a few years ...read more
