Found at the end of the original Route 66 in Los Angeles, near Pomona, in Claremont. From that point Route 66 continues on more modern city streets to Santa Monica.

We bought this car and a 1967 American 440 Hardtop at the same time. Both cars have the AMC V8 engine.

This is a 1966 AMC Rambler American 440 Convertible. 343 CID 4V V8 with Borg-Warner M12 three speed automatic. The car's VIN and badging shows that it came with a 232 CID straight six.

Originally sold in Portland, Oregon. The V8 conversion was probably done by a dealer. The installation is indistinguishable from the factory original V8 in the '67 hardtop. Even the fuel lines have been run down the opposite side of the car from their six cylinder mountings.

The car came to Los Angeles around 1973, and went into a warehouse in 1978, until about five months before I bought it in 2005.
