Zebedee's 1970 Volkswagen Beetle

Rate this vehicle

This is my Elm green 1970 VW beetle 1300.
I bought it in september 1996 from the 9th or 10th owner.
Its had at least one bad restoration before in the hands of a VW 'specialist' so i'm having to undo all the previous repairs which weren't to a very good standard and redo it all from scratch.
I suppose scrapping it and just buying a better, more solid base would have been preferable but it was my first VW and i'm kinda attached to it.
I've probably spent more money on it than its worth but who buys a project to make a profit?

Bonnet repair and replacement

The existing bonnet was in a bad state with a rotten nose and rust holes around the hinges at the top corners.
I managed to obtain a replacement from a mate for free and just need to get it cleaned up and painted.

The driver's side engine bay side tray was rotten and holey and the passenger's side one had fallen off.

Too many rotten captive nuts and snapped wing mounting bolts meant the rear wings were only held on with half the bolts they should have been.

Rear suspension mount replacement

One of the rear suspension mounts was in a real nasty way, having been stuffed full of filler then just painted over with underseal in an attempt to hide it from the MOT inspector.
After cutting the rotten panel out, a new replacement panel was welded in.
