According to the website: http://www.wesleycollege.org/DoubleBlue/principals.htm “...............Mauritius, which had become a Crown Colony in 1810, received its first motor vehicle in 1903, and at around the same time the Maharaja of Patiala’s De Dion Bouton (licence plate number 0) became the first-ever car in India!” Consequently, it follows that French made De Dion Bouton Car was first imported in India by the Maharaja of Patiala.

england ppl.... De Dion-Bouton was a French automobile manufacturer operating from 1883 to 1932. The company was founded by Comte Albert de Dion (1856-1946), Georges Bouton (1847-1938) and his brother in law Charles Trépardoux. Bouton and Trépardoux had been making small steam engines and toys when they met de Dion who offered to go into partnership with them forming De Dion, Bouton et Trépardoux in Paris in 1883. Gigi, in a story by Colette, is forced to turn down a ride in a de Dion-Bouton for the sake of propriety. The first car to be officially registered in the province of Quebec was a Dion-Bouton, in 1903. Its license plate bears the code "Q 1", hand-painted
