redranch's 1965 Pontiac Bonneville
Updated 3rd September 2010 Well a recent trip to see the cars has confirmed my choice...
Where is the location of the VIN number on a 1968 Volvo 122S (Amazon)? Or does it even have one
typically the vin number is on the drivers side of the car on the front dashboard, If it isn't there you might be able to find it under the hood on one of the wheel wells. It may also be a possibility that on a car of that age the ID number wasn't called a VIN number, the chasis number maybe.

A '68 vehicle doesn't have a VIN per se as we know them now, a long series of letters and numbers that actually mean something. Volvo used a multi-digit number that you will find on a plate above the master cylinder. It's identified as the chassis number. This same number, along with others, is also stamped into the body at various locations.
